Intuitive PowersThe most successful people in the world work with a very strong intuition. They usually work from the heart. Increasing your intuitive power is easy and fun.

I was reading on many blogs such as AspireMag and BeliefNet that everyone has some degree of psychic or intuitive ability; just like athletic ability, it varies from person to person.

And just like athleticism, you can increase your intuition through a lot of practice and a little knowledge. The real secret here is that 90 percent of being a good psychic is just paying attention to what is going on around you.

  1. Look at newspaper photos. Read a newspaper by first looking at the photo only without reading the corresponding headline or story. Make up a story about the photo you are looking at. Then read the story to see how accurate your impression was. The more you practice this the easier it will be to look at a photo and be able to accurately tell the story.
  2. Guess who is calling. Whenever the phone rings try and guess who the caller is before you pick the phone up. You will be amazed by how often you will get it right. Track the success of your guesses and notice how quickly you make progress.
  3. Think about someone you know. As you think of someone you know, see them clearly in your mind. Notice how long it takes for the person you are thinking about to call you. Document your results.
  4. Ask a question. Using a regular coin assign “yes” or “no” to heads or tails. Then ask yes/no questions and flip the coin to get answers. Notice and journal how you feel as you receive answers to your questions.
  5. Pay attention to your surroundings. As you go about your regular day notice numbers, billboard messages, signs and anything else in your environment that may be considered a message for you. Nothing is random. Everything is meaningful to you. Often that very issue that you are wrestling with in your thoughts is displayed as a sign right in front of you; all you need to do is pay attention.
  6. Shuffle a deck of cards. Shuffle a regular deck of cards. Then predict whether the card you are about to turn over is red or black. Then turn over the card. Track the percentage of correct predictions and notice how much better you get over time. Once you’ve got that down, practice predicting whether the card you are about to flip over is hearts, diamonds, spades or clubs. Keep track of your progress.
  7. Predict a song. While listening to the radio, try and predict what song will come up within the next hour. Then listen for the song to be played. Keep listening for your song to play and hear how often your prediction is correct.
  8. Randomly eavesdrop on conversations.Pay attention to snippets of information from a conversation you might overhear in a public place. Often these random pieces of information can be strung together to make meaning for you about a personal or business situation you might currently be dealing with. Listen for answers to questions you have.
  9. Randomly flip to a page in a book. Pick a book from your bookcase and begin flipping through it, stopping on a random page. Begin reading anywhere on the page and you will be amazed at how relevant what you are reading relates to whatever is going on in your life at the moment. Practice this regularly to gain valuable insights.
  10. Act on your hunches. The best way to practice intuition is to act on your hunches. Often we get a gut feeling about a situation and then ignore it, only to later wish we had paid attention to it. Use your hunch just like you would another piece of valuable information.
  11. Pay attention to what is happening in the world around you. Many times our guidance comes through the world around us. Tune into the song on the radio; open up a page in a book and read what jumps out at you. Notice what animals you see and the things people say to you.  Everything has meaning. There is a magical flow to the world that is full of answers if only you notice it.
  12. Know your feelings. If you are disconnected from your emotions, you will also miss a lot of messages. Our spirit guides talk to us all the time through our feelings. More importantly, we know ourselves that way. Think about all the times you just “felt” something was wrong (or wonderfully right!), and it was.
  13. Clearing your mind – It is easier to hear the whispers from the soul when your mind is quiet and open. You likely have lots of thoughts running through your mind at any given moment. You probably spend much of your day multi-tasking. All of this “noise” makes it difficult to hear your intuitive voice. Once your mind is clearer, you can then access your intuition.
  14. Meditation: There are many forms of meditation and all are excellent ways to get centered and quiet the mind. Even a few minutes of meditation daily can increase your ability to hear your intuitive voice. Meditation is like priming the pump. As you get used to being in a meditative state, you will find that it is easier to hear the whispers from your soul and to distinguish these messages from other mental chatter. If you are new to meditation you might try sitting quietly and focusing your attention on a candle flame. When your awareness drifts (and it will), simply bring your attention gently back to the flame. You can also try focusing your attention on a short phrase or word (mantra) that you repeat over and over to yourself. Remember that the key is to gently bring your mind back to your focus point. Getting frustrated will only interfere with the process.
  15. Imagery: You can use imagery to help you access intuitive answers to your questions. Imagine yourself in a quiet place in nature, surrounded by beauty and wonder. Make this image as vivid as possible by using all of your senses. Spend a few moments simply enjoying this place in your mind’s eye. Then, imagine a treasure chest nearby. You feel excited as you approach the chest because you know that the answer to your question is inside. Take a deep breath and imagine yourself opening the treasure chest. Don’t try to control this, let your intuitive mind guide you. Trust that whatever is inside the chest is your answer. You might receive a very clear answer or you might get a symbol that doesn’t make logical sense to you. Either way, it is exactly what you need. Trust that if the answer is not clear right away, it will become clear over time. Over the next few days, be open to feelings, songs, conversations, or any synchronistic events. Be patient! If you become frustrated or try to force an answer, you will block the flow of intuition.
  16. Dreams: While you are sleeping and your conscious mind is at rest, your soul has the opportunity to bring intuitive information to you through your dreams. When you are working on a problem and looking for your intuitive guidance, take some time before you fall asleep to ask for an answer to come to you through your dreams. Be sure to keep a journal by your bed so that you can record your dreams the moment you wake up. Your answers may come symbolically and may need some interpretation. Look for the emotions and themes of your dreams and see if this sheds light on your problem. If the answer still is not clear, be patient and remain open. You may find more clarity with time.
  17. Affirmations: You can use affirmations to focus your mind. It is best to use affirmations with some form of relaxation (such as deep breathing) in order to get the combined effects of a relaxed body and focused or centered mind. Affirmations are a terrific way to tap into the power of your subconscious mind to help you reach your conscious desires. Affirmations should be concise sentences stated in a positive way. When creating an affirmation remember to state what it is that you want, not what you don’t want. Another important guideline is to always use the present tense when creating your affirmations. The following are a few examples of affirmations to increase your intuitive abilities. I trust my intuition. My intuitive voice is consistently accurate. I access my intuition easily.
  18. Practice: It is important to practice using your intuition. When you first start practicing you may want to begin with small issues that do not have a significant impact on your life. For example, try to guess who is calling before you pick up your phone. Guess which elevator will show up first when you are standing in front of a bank of elevators. Practicing with these simple issues will allow you to stay relaxed and focused without too much distraction from fear or other mental chatter. As you practice, you will get better at recognizing your intuitive impulses and you will gain confidence in using this skill. The more confident you feel about identifying your intuitive voice, the more you will trust it and be able to act on it. As you practice using your intuition and build your skill, you will find that your intuitive voice is a precious resource – an indispensable gift. You can use this inner wisdom to guide you in all of your decisions at work, at home, and at play. The more you use and trust your intuition, the stronger it will get and the more confident you will feel about it. The whispers from your soul will always guide you to the path that is for your highest good.
  19. Be in your body. This is a big one. Being outside of our bodies is another way of being checked out and not paying attention. Your body and your emotions are the best spirit barometers out there, and they never fool or lie to you (like your mind does). If your body thinks it’s true and your feelings echo it, then trust yourself.
  20. Record your dreams. Not everyone remembers their dreams, but you can learn to by writing down whatever scraps are in your mind when you wake up. Keep a pen and journal by your bed. Our intuitive dreams are often the ones we remember for days, months, or even years.
  21. Learn how to listen and be receptive. With our busy lives we forget to quiet our minds and listen. Take a moment to close your eyes and turn your attention inside. Sometimes your guidance is just waiting for you to quiet your mind long enough so it can get a word in edgewise.
  22. Obey the psychic ethics rule. The number one rule of receiving intuitive information is not to share it with anyone unless asked. If you get a hunch about someone, don’t speak to him or her about it unless you are invited to share your opinion. This is the number one problem beginner psychics have, and it will leave you with no friends pretty fast.
  23. Read books; take a class; and practice, practice, practice! Increasing your intuition requires two things: gaining a little knowledge and practicing a lot. It’s like trying to get in shape. You can read books about working out, but at some point you have to put the book down and hit the gym everyday.
  24. Get to know your guides. It’s good to know who is working with you and how to access them. We each have a team of guides, plus our own inner knowing. Using tools like a pendulum, cards, runes, or the I-Ching can help open a channel and assist you in getting to know your guides better.
  25. Learn to trust yourself and honor your own inner wisdom. This sounds easy, but it’s often the hardest part. We doubt ourselves so much. If you trusted every hit you had, you’d be the best psychic in the world. This comes through practice, the passing of time, and the confirmation of your hunches.
